We loved creating this cake for Paul’s 75th Birthday, which was held at Stokely Event Center. We pulled many Pink Floyd elements into this cake to make it the ultimate fan cake! This cake was all buttercream with a few fondant accents. Cheers Paul! We hope you had a wonderful birthday celebration!!
Every January for the past six years, we have received a fantastic email from Wedding Wire. It’s the one that congratulates us on being awarded the Couples’ Choice Awards for another year. We love receiving this particular award because it’s decided on by the couples that we have worked with in the past.
Here’s the official scoop from the Wedding Wire website:
“The WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards® recognize local wedding professionals who demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness, and professionalism. Winners are determined by the reviews from more than one million WeddingWire couples.
So thank you to all of our past brides and grooms for taking the time to review us! We take great pride in each and every cake that goes out our door!
We love being a part of all celebrations, but there is something special about creating a quinceanera cake! We get to meet with the whole family when planning this 15th Birthday celebration. Often the birthday girl is accompanied by her parents and siblings and occasionally even her grandparents are present. This party is definitely a family affair!
When we started planning this quinceanera we learned about the regal color scheme of red, gold and ivory and we were very excited to turn our planned sketch into reality. We started with 6 tiers of cake – enough to serve 325 people! We created each tier with two layers of cake and filling with the exception of the 10″ tier, which was a jumbo tier made up of three layers of cake and filling.
The top tier was iced smooth, while the second tier was given a quilted impression and adorned with gold sugar pearls at the intersections. The third tier, the jumbo tier, was iced smooth and then piped with a delicate scroll. It was then sprayed gold.
The fourth and fifth tiers were iced smooth and accented with gilded fondant accents. The sixth and final tier was covered in gold sugar crystals. Once the cake was stacked and decorated, we added sugar flowers in red, gold and ivory.
This cake was delivered to the beautiful Mayo Hotel where it was placed on a gold cake plateau. Happy 15th!!!
We have had so many requests for Fortnite cakes lately. It’s a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, which is fine with us…it’s such a fun theme to create! We have created Battle Busses and Loot llamas, but this Fortnite cake was a classic design that incorporated so many fun aspects of the game.
This party didn’t need to feed too many, so we added as many of the aspects as possible onto this 8″ round cake. We started with a solid base of smooth green buttercream icing. We then added the various elements of the game. At the base of the cake, we added grass and chocolate rocks as well as sculpted fondant slurp juice and bandages.
On top of the cake we added even more details from the game: sculpted loot llama, chest, bandages, pick ax. These elements were nestled among the cone shaped trees, buttercream piped grass and chocolate rocks.
All of these accents are created ahead of time, so they can dry. Once dry, they are secured to the cake. They are all edible! Happy Birthday TJ!

January is one of my favorite months of the year! Not only is it my birthday month, but it’s also the month where all the newly engaged couples come in for their cake tasting appointments. To clarify, we do cake tastings all year long, but we do the most…by far…in January. This week alone, I have over 30 tastings scheduled. Now that’s A LOT of samples!
I don’t mind the numbers at all. In fact, I prefer to be busy and meet with as many couples as possible! I love learning about the couples and watching how they interact with each other. You can learn a lot about a couple by watching them decide on cake flavors together. So what should you expect at your cake tasting appointment? Here are a few insider tips:
1.) Don’t Come Hungry. Eat some “real food” before coming in to taste cake. You will be able to enjoy the flavors and different combinations more if you’re not ravenous.
2.) Do Bring Pictures and Ideas. Be sure to come prepared to discuss the design of your cake AS WELL AS the flavors. At All Things Cake, we talk design first and then taste cake. Without a design, I can’t provide you with an accurate quote, so be sure that you’ve narrowed down your favorite designs and saved them to your phone or printed them out.
3.) Don’t Bring the Whole Wedding Party. If you can, only come with your fiance. If the person paying for the cake wants to come, that’s fine as well, but limit the number of opinions to 2-3. Too many people at at cake tasting often leads to confusion and makes decision making harder than it needs to be.
4.) Do Have an Open Mind. Be open to trying a flavor combination you might not normally like. Or be open to a design or strategy different than the image you saw in the magazine. Your tasting consultant knows her stuff – be open to his or her recommendations on how many servings you actually need, the types of flowers that can go on the cake or where to display the cake, for example. (Spoiler alert: never display your cake outdoors in July…)
5.) Do Arrive on Time. Be sure to be respectful to the bakery you’re getting free cake from. Be sure to make every effort to arrive on time or call them if you’re going to be late. If you can’t make your appointment at all, please give them the courtesy of a phone call. Chances are, they baked samples fresh just for you.
6.) Don’t Stress Out. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to have a flavor for everyone on the guest list. Your baker can make some crowd-pleasing recommendations, but above all, choose a flavor that YOU and YOUR FIANCE like. It’s just cake, after all!
We would love to meet with you to discuss your wedding cake. If you’d like to schedule a cake tasting appointment at All Things Cake, please click here.
When you own your own business, there is no real break or vacation. Your phone never really stops ringing and the emails never really stop coming in. This is a good thing and I’m so grateful that my little bakery has taken off the way it has! I have a great staff that I can leave in charge, but a small business owner is still a small business owner…even on vacation.
My husband recently surprised me with a weekend getaway to Eureka Springs, AR. It was just for a few days and his motive was to help me recharge my batteries before I hit the ground running into 2019. It was just the break I needed! We nosed around the historic downtown shops and it was then that I noticed that a baker never takes a vacation. We passed a gift shop and I immediately was drawn to the cookie related items. At the home decor store I gravitated to the cake stands. In the sock store I considered purchasing cupcake socks for everyone in my family. Even at the nut shop I immediately spotted these items:
We are drawn to things related to our passion…even (or especially) on vacation. Even when the phone is turned off and you’re away from the computer…you’re still a bakery owner. And I wouldn’t have it any other way!!
Now…one last deep breath as we prepare to take on 2019! We are already on track to do more weddings than ever before. Our classes fill within days – sometimes hours – of posting. We have increased staff to tackle the increased demand…So let’s do this 2019!!
If you have visited the Hidden Porch Wedding Chapel and Gardens, then you know how gorgeous it is. The large reception deck with string lights and and tree lined paths bring so much natural beauty to every wedding reception and Joseph and Rachel’s wedding was no exception.
For this wedding cake we iced four tiers in a textured off-white buttercream. We then added a band of burlap and bling to the base of each tier and accented it with faux branches and sticks. We carved the couples new initials into the cake to mimic a tree carving.
At delivery, each tier was accented with fresh blooms and a natural wood cake topper. The cake table was adorned with greenery and florals giving it a romantic fairy garden look. The end result was simply stunning!
The first weekend of the new year took us to one of our favorite venues…Glass Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK. The ladies at Glass Chapel are wonderful to work with! The packages they offer allow couples to plan their weddings with ease and we love each time we get to deliver here.
Purple, silver and white is such a beautiful combination for a January wedding. This cake was a nice mixture of tradition and modern with a classic elements and a pop of a more modern color. The top tier had a classic quilted pattern with silver sugar pearls at the intersections. The middle tier had hand-piped scrolls in buttercream. And the bottom tier had rows of uniform rosettes in a shade of purple that was seen throughout the reception. This cake was set on a silver cake drum and placed on a silver plateau to complete the look. Beautiful!
When I was young, my family would visit cousins in Arkansas who had a farmhouse with a large wrap around porch. The adults would sit on the porch and catch up while the children would climb the biggest magnolia tree I’ve ever seen. It was the most magnificent tree and I made such fun memories among its branches. When we create a wedding cake with sugar Magnolias, I am always brought back to that tree and the memories created there. And this cake was no exception.
This cake is a 4-tier cake with a jumbo bottom tier and a single layer tier above it, which will serve about 125 people. The different size layers make this traditional cake a little more modern. Each tier of this cake is iced smooth and stacked. We painted a gold stripe on the second tier to pull in the metallic accents of the room. We added hand-piped petite lace piping to the top and bottom tiers to add some romance and softness to the clean lines.
We then added the Magnolia, which is a sugar flower that is made petal by petal. We kept the petals white, but painted the center gold to coordinate with the rest of the metallic accents. Faux wisps of greenery were added to give the flower a more natural look. We placed the cake on a gold pedestal to complete the look at Dream Point Ranch.
The Magnolia is definitely the focal point of this cake. We hope it conjures happy memories of the occasion just as the magnificent Magnolia tree from my childhood does for me.
