Ordering a custom cake is an exciting process, but it can also feel overwhelming if you’re not sure where to start. Whether it’s for a wedding, birthday, or any special occasion, this guide will walk you through what to expect and how to plan your perfect cake with All Things Cake.
Step 1: Start with Inspiration
Gather Ideas: Before reaching out to us at All Things Cake, have a general idea of what you want. Use platforms like Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration, and think about colors, themes, and any special elements you’d like to include.
Be Open-Minded: While it’s great to have a vision, be flexible. Our experienced decorators can offer suggestions to improve the design or adapt it based on practical considerations like structure and materials.
Step 2: Choose All Things Cake
Why Choose Us: With over 15 years of experience specializing in custom cakes, we’re proud to bring your vision to life. Our team is known for crafting fresh, never frozen cakes with customizable flavors and stunning designs.
Schedule Early: High-quality custom cakes are in demand, so book your order with us as soon as possible—at least 4-6 months in advance for weddings. For birthdays and smaller occasions, we prefer advance notice of 3-6 weeks. However, we can often accommodate shorter turnarounds—just give us a call!
Personalized Guidance: At All Things Cake, our cake designers are here to walk you through the entire process. From your initial consultation to the final design, our team ensures that every detail is perfectly tailored to your vision.
Working with Your Budget: We understand that every client has a budget, and we’ll work with you to find the best solution. Sometimes a smaller centerpiece cake can meet your needs, paired with cupcakes or other desserts to accommodate the desired number of servings.
Step 3: Plan Your Consultation
Set an Appointment: At All Things Cake, we offer both in-house tastings and our convenient Tasting To Go boxes. Schedule an appointment to sample flavors and discuss your ideas in detail.
Bring Visuals: Share photos, color swatches, or invitation designs to give us a better sense of your style. Once you have a photo and an idea of the servings needed, you can call, visit us in person, or submit a request for a quote online.
Discuss Flavors: One of the most exciting parts is choosing your cake flavors and fillings. Whether you visit us for an in-house tasting or opt for a Tasting To Go box, you’ll have the opportunity to find your favorite combination.
Step 4: Understand the Design Process
Collaborate: Work with our team to refine your design.
Communicate Clearly: Be specific about what you like and don’t like. If there’s something you’re unsure about, we’re here to answer your questions.
Factor in Practicality: Trust our expertise regarding cake size, structural integrity, and materials that suit your event’s setting.
Step 5: Review the Details
Confirm All Aspects: Before finalizing, review the contract (weddings and large parties) to ensure it includes all agreed-upon details, including flavors, design, delivery, and setup information.
Understand Costs: Custom cakes at All Things Cake are priced based on size, complexity, and materials. Intricate designs, handmade decorations, or specialty ingredients can increase the price, so we’ll work with you to balance your budget and vision.
Payment Schedule: For wedding cakes, we require a 30% nonrefundable deposit, with the remaining balance due 3 weeks before the event. For party cakes, we require a 50% nonrefundable deposit, with the remaining balance due at pick-up.
Step 6: Prepare for Delivery
Delivery Services: We offer delivery in Tulsa and surrounding areas for an additional fee. Delivery is highly recommended for cakes over 2 tiers or with complex structures. Choosing delivery ensures your cake arrives safely and professionally set up at your venue.
Pick-Up Guidelines: If you choose to pick up your cake, it’s essential to transport it properly. Cakes must stay cool and be placed on a flat surface, such as a floorboard. Avoid placing the cake in a car seat, which is soft and inclined, or having someone hold it in their lap, as these options are not stable. Once the cake leaves our store, All Things Cake is not responsible for any damage during transport, so please choose wisely.
Refrigeration Requirements: Our cakes need to be kept cool until about 1-2 hours before serving. Planning for proper refrigeration ensures the cake remains fresh and intact until it’s time to cut and serve.
Additional Offerings
In addition to custom cakes, we offer a variety of other desserts to complement your event. These include cookies, cake balls, cake pops, cupcakes, and full dessert bars. Whether you’re planning a wedding or a party, these options allow you to create a stunning and delicious display that suits your needs.
Tips for a Smooth Experience
- Plan for Extras: If your cake design includes edible or non-edible decorations, ask if you can keep them as mementos.
- Communicate Dietary Needs: We offer options like gluten-free tiers to accommodate guests with dietary restrictions.
- Follow Storage Instructions: If your cake requires refrigeration or special handling, we’ll provide clear guidance.
Ordering a custom cake should be a fun and collaborative process. At All Things Cake, we’re here to ensure your cake is as delicious as it is beautiful. Ready to get started? Contact us today and let’s bring your dream cake to life!
