At All Things Cake in Tulsa, some of our favorite projects are cakes that look like something completely different. This custom cigar box cake was created for a special 50th birthday celebration and delivered to The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa.
The design was inspired by the birthday guest of honor’s love of cigars, and the client wanted the cake to feel like a realistic cigar box sitting on the table.
The final result looked just like a wooden cigar humidor filled with cigars and paired with a glass of whiskey — a perfect centerpiece for a milestone birthday celebration.
A Realistic Cigar Box Cake Design
The base of the cigar box was actually cake, carefully carved and covered in fondant that was textured and painted to resemble wood grain.
On top of the box sat several handcrafted fondant cigars, each detailed to look like the real thing. The ends were finished with textured “tobacco” detailing to make them appear even more realistic.
For the lid of the cigar box, we created a fondant-covered board designed to mimic the inside of an open cigar box lid. The lid featured the birthday guest’s favorite cigar brand logo, which was printed on edible paper and framed to resemble the label inside a real cigar box.
This design allowed the cake to look like the lid had been opened to reveal the cigars inside.

What makes sculpted cakes like this so fun is the attention to detail.
For this cake, we added several realistic elements including:
- Handmade fondant cigars
- A textured wood grain cigar box design
- An edible cigar brand logo printed on edible paper
- A gold “50” topper for the milestone birthday
- A custom “Happy Birthday Kevin” plaque
- A fondant cigar cutter
- A whiskey glass accent to complete the theme
These small details help transform the cake from simply dessert into a true showpiece for the celebration.
